Heartbreaker

Heartbreaker

Happy (belated) Valentine's Day! I know that it was last week, but as I mentioned in my TV recommendation post last week, we got a ton of snow recently (10+ inches over two days), so I wasn't able to shoot this before the holiday. Better late than never, I suppose.

This jacket has been hanging in my closet for a while now - I purchased it back before Christmas because I loved the beautiful button details, and all those tiny loops down the front and at the pockets. It's a beautiful example of 1940s style, and the rich cranberry red is such a gorgeous color. I've found it surprisingly difficult to pair, though, until I came across this burgundy pencil skirt.

This coat makes yet another appearance.

The skirt wasn't quite the perfect match that I thought it was when I bought it, but I actually like the contrast. The tone on tone (on tone on tone on tone, if we're also including my shoes, headband, and hair) feels like a fun way to do a monochromatic look.

This hair is kind of a lot - bumper bangs, a poodle, and a floral headband? Any one of those things would typically be the beginning and end of a hairstyle, at least for me - but since I was keeping my accessories so minimal, I thought I could get away with it.

I just realized that even though this post was intended as a Valentine's Day look, given the location (a pretty park in Chicago's Chinatown) and all the red (a traditionally lucky color), this post could also double as a celebration of Chinese New Year. So, uh, 新年好呀, and I hope everyone had a very sweet Valentine's Day.
