Coin-Op Cuisine: When the Future Tasted Like a Five Cent Slice of Pie
You know that line in Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend where she says something about how a man can't help you at the automat? I totally didn't realize that was a restaurant until now.
Awesome Old Pictures of Beauties On Their Penny Farthing Cycles
As someone who routinely cycles in vintage (or vintage inspired clothing), I was in love with this set of photos. Side not - I clearly live in the hipster part of Chicago, because a couple of days ago I saw a guy riding a penny farthing bike down the street with a GoPro on his head,
How Gwynnie Bee Is Changing the Plus Size Fashion Game
One thing that I've heard from my plus-size friends is how hard it is to find cute, stylish clothes that actually fit. It's great to see a company like Gwynnie Bee reaching out to the huge number of women who don't fit into straight size clothes.
Elizabeth Taylor Ran a Secret Network to Get Drugs to HIV Patients
Not that you needed another reason to love Liz, but here you go.
Yes, Shooting Up An Abortion Clinic Is Domestic Terrorism
This is much less on the awesome side of things, but just a reminder that terrorism is terrorism, and anyone can commit it.
Can Bianca Del Rio's Insult Drag Survive In a PC World?
Anyone else watch RuPaul's Drag Race? Love this show so much! Bianca is one of my favorite contestants ever, so I was really excited to see she has a new comedy special.
Why Do We Humanize White Guys Who Kill People?
Back to the depressing shit. I think that this article speaks to a wide ranging problem in American society - when white people do something terrible, one of the first things people do is look for the inevitable sob story in their past to, if not justify, at least explain their actions. That's a natural human reaction, but it's much more rare to see the same thing when it comes to people of color. There have been protests in Chicago over the death of a young man named Laquan MacDonald, and one thing that I've noticed is that people keep finding reasons why he deserved to die - he was on PCP, he was stealing radios out of trucks, blah blah blah. They don't look for the reasons why he deserved to live.
This Is Probably What Chicago's "L" Map Looked Like In Frank Lloyd Wright's Dreams
And back to awesome! Tonal whiplash, anyone?
Cinderella Style Part 1 and Part 2
Going out on a high note, this dissection of the costuming of Cinderella was an amazing read! I wasn't really interested in seeing it before, but now I really want to get an eyeful of all those costumes.
