All Aboard the Disco Train

All Aboard the Disco Train

I didn't intend to go a week without posting, but so it goes. You know how it is - life just catches up to you sometimes, and when you have the time to do a thing you know you should do, you don't have the energy, and when you have the energy, you don't have the time. Oh well. That just means I have a lot to write about!

I mentioned in my last post that I thought I had found my new apartment, and we signed the lease last week. It's a great place, right in the heart of the neighborhood we were looking at (and just down the street from Dethrose Vintage's brick and mortar store, and oof, I'm already thinking about the inevitable dent I'll make in my wallet some day), and although it's at the high end of our budget range, I think it's worth it. Of course, since it is at that high end, I'm already trying to get my financial situation in better shape. After my no spend month, back in February, I felt like I was in a good place, but I've backslid something fierce. Nothing motivates like fear, though, and I've started working on building up a nest egg in the event that Brian hits a dry spell at work and can't contribute financially.

You know, I feel like worry, if it's managed properly, is actually a really helpful emotion. A little stress helps clarify my priorities, and I find it much easier to buckle down and do what needs to be done than when there's not pressure.

Forgot to put sunblock on the tops of my feet. Won't be making that mistake again.

I also celebrated my birthday this weekend! It's actually today (happy birthday to me!), but Monday's not a great night for going out when you have to be to work at 7.30 the next morning. Brian used to play rugby, and Saturday he took me to one of his old teams matches. I'm amazed by just how much fun I had. We also went out for karaoke, and I was a bit disappointed that I only got to sing one song, but he made up for it by buying me cake and taking me to the goth club for dancing.

I bought this dress a few months ago from Archetype Vintage, but I've been waiting for warm weather to wear it. You guys, it has a cape. A cape! And the baby blue color is so pretty. It's very disco fabulous (and, as Brian felt compelled to point out, more than a little bit Princess Leia) (which I can only take as a compliment, and which also seems totally appropriate, given that there's a new Star Wars coming out), but in the best kind of way.

These shoes surprised me a little bit - I haven't worn them in a while, and I'd forgotten how good they are for going out. Like a lot of heels, they're not great for a lot of walking, but for biking, sitting, standing, and dancing, they were amazing. No limping around halfway through the night, and no sore feet the next day. Win!

My posting is probably going to stay a bit irregular for the next couple of weeks as I get ready for the move, but once I get settled into my new place, things should get back to normal. I have some great posts in mind, including a couple of vintage hair cheats for lazy girls, some summer outfit remixes, and a whole lot of nerding out.
