It's a Tropical Storm
I have so many cute things that I never know what to do with. I'm not great with accessorizing, so a lot of my more interesting hats, shoes, and bags end up languishing in my closet in favor of more basic pieces. This weekend there was a food truck festival in my neighborhood, and I thought it would be fun to dress up a little bit and strut my stuff.
This outfit started with the hat. I bought it last summer on a whim, but it... well, it's ridiculous. It is, without a doubt, one of the more ridiculous things that I own. In Brian's words, if Devo played lounge music, this is the kind of hat they would wear. There's a mermaid on it, and a net, and seashells.
Sometimes it's fun to be ridiculous, though. People might snicker a bit behind their hands when I walk past in this outfit, but at least I'm not just another girl in cutoffs and a t-shirt.
This purse was $3, and I love it. It's faded and falling apart, but it makes me feel like I visited the gift shop on the beach at Alcapulco in 1962, which is just cool.
As is probably abundantly clear, I'm still on my blue and yellow kick. I'm seriously jonesing for summer this year, which is unusual for me - I'm usually the person bitching about how the beach is just a place to get a sunburn and some sand in your ass crack, but I'm actually kind of in the mood for it right now. Blue and yellow, the color of the sun and surf, just feels like an accurate reflection of that.
