When It Sizzles

I've been in a very particular mood lately. I don't know what it is, exactly, but something about blue skies and fluttering chiffon just seems beyond perfect to me. Summer is a short season in Chicago, and for once I really want to try and enjoy it.

If you follow me on Instagram (@zellamaybe, for the curious), you've probably already seen a couple of these pictures. This dress is unusually... well, naked for me. It's not that I'm shy about showing skin, but this is an unabashedly sexy dress, and I don't typically think of myself as being a very sexy person. I wasn't sure about this dress when I first bought it, but once I had it on it was basically irresistible.

You know, as much as I like fashion, I know I'm not the most stylish blogger. My outfits aren't the coolest or the most put together, I don't have the most extensive wardrobe, and I have a distinct tendency to punt when it comes to accessorizing. Sometimes, though, I'll get really excited about a set of photos because I feel like I've actually managed to translate something that I see in my mind's eye into something real in front of the camera. I got that feeling from these pictures.

The other thing that I really liked about these photos was the thought that one day I'll be much older and saggier, and I'm going to appreciate having proof that I used to be all firm and perky.

See? Perky.

See? Perky.

I've been going through a little bit of a style evolution. I still love my vintage, but I haven't been reaching for it as often lately. It's just so hot, and I'm so much more active now; stressing delicate seams and sweating through 50+ year old fabrics is not my idea of a good time.

I'm sure once fall rolls around I'll swing back towards my vintage style, but right now I'm having fun exploring the modern side of things. Do you also find yourself redefining your style with the weather, or do you find you're more consistent?
