Waiting Out The Winter

Did everyone have a nice Valentine's Day weekend? Brian had to work, but we still had fun - we spent the whole day together before he had to go in, which is something we rarely get a chance to do. It was nice to do some really normal things, like bake a cake, play video games, and eat Chinese food. I love getting dressed up and going out, but we try to do that on a semi-regular basis anyway, so we don't usually feel the need to go big on Valentine's Day.

I mentioned in my last post that I bought myself a DSLR. I've been having fun playing around with the new camera, although it's going to take some getting used to. It's a step up in difficulty from my point and shoot, but the results already feel worth it. It's funny, but for self-portraits, I'm finding it much easier to work with in manual. I guess obsessively reading tips, tricks, and tutorials actually paid off. Win.

The weather took a turn last week, going from jacket weather right back into coat, scarf, and winter boot weather. I guess you can't expect much else from February in Chicago, but it's still kind of a disappointment. I'm not usually the sort the fly off to warmer climes at the first sign of snow, but that's exactly what I'd like to do right now. I mean, it doesn't have to be tropical or anything (let's not get greedy here), but Mediterranean would be nice.

Because it's been so cold recently, I've been trying to find creative ways to layer. This is one of my lighter coats, but I love the vibrant green color. It's a little hard to see in the photos, but I have a turtleneck and a blazer on underneath. Once it warms up a bit, this blazer is definitely getting its own post. It's very New Look and beyond fabulous; now all I have to do is find the right pair of pants to go with it. The hunt is on! For the moment, though, I love to pair it with this 50s/60s wrap skirt. It's got a beautiful texture, and it's really comfortable.

This Christmas was officially The Year Everyone Gave Jessica Jewelry, and I can't say I'm mad about it. These drop earrings were a gift from Brian's parents, and they are just too lovely. They're sterling silver and tiger's eye, slightly deco in design, and perfect with practically any outfit.
