Bellissima

The older I get, the more I love summer.

You know how it's supposed to be when you're a little kid - summer is the best thing ever! No school, just running around with your friends all day, or going to camp, or doing whatever it is that kids are supposed to do? Yeah, that wasn't quite my experience. My mother ran a recycling center, so in the summers my brother and I both spent our summer days there, working. There are worse things in the world, and it's not like there wasn't plenty of time to run around and get into trouble, but it wasn't quite the hazy golden childhood that people seem to have in books and movies. (Of course, nothing really is, but I hope you know what I mean.)

Anyway, in the past couple of years I've come around on summer. I don't seem to notice the heat the way that I used to, and I've mostly figured out the whole sunscreen thing, and hanging out on the beach is actually not terrible. I will always be a partisan of fall, but summer does have its own delights.

I picked this dress up in Cape Cod last month, and I absolutely adore it. It even has pockets! Not that I remembered to put my hands in them, so you'll have to take my word for it. But it's two of my favorite colors (yellow and blue), it's made from soft and sturdy cotton, and I love the shape of it. I often buy my dresses very fitted, so it's kind of a relief to have something with a bit more ease to it.

I was going for kind of early 60s Mediterranean styling, and I feel pretty cute with it. It did kind of highlight some holes in my jewelry wardrobe, though - I feel like it could have used some big gold earrings and a chunky gold bracelet. I know something I'll be searching Etsy for...
