Loving in Fall
Although it still feels like summer here in Chicago, it's finally fall, and I couldn't be more excited. I love fall, but more than any one particular season, I love change - the sense of potential that hits me as I mark the different moments in the passage of the year.
I took these photos before I left for Hong Kong, and they feel perfectly suited to the change of the seasons. The clothes are lightweight cotton, comfortable for the heat, but the color palette - black and brown and moody shades of green and blue - speaks to the cooler months to me. As excited as I am to pull out my jackets and sweaters, comfort is still king!
I recently rescued this skirt from a bag of clothes that I was planning to donate. It's a gorgeous pattern, but the waistband is a bit too thick and the length is just a touch shorter than I like. I just can't resist that fabric, though, so I wanted to see if I could find a way to make it work. A belt really did wonders for making the waistband more flattering, and these heels do a good job of balancing out what can be, on me, an awkward length.
This has become my go-to updo when my pin curls start falling flat 5 minutes after I step outside. It's simple to do, it lasts, and I always get a ton of compliments when I wear my hair this way. It's funny how the easiest things can look so impressive!
I'm feeling a bit low energy at the moment - a bit of post-vacation malaise, I'm sure, but I've also been focusing a lot on work recently and that takes a lot out of me - but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things here at home. After all, I should have some lovely fall weather to start dressing for soon!
