Slap Happy

I love makeup, but I'm kind of an indifferent makeup artist. I admire the folks out there who apparently work magic with it - I can hardly cover a zit, much less draw a new face on top of my existing one.
That said, I wear a full face of makeup on a daily basis, and I do have some VIPs that I'd like to recommend. So, from my face to yours, here are the products that I've been reaching for non-stop recently.

The first product that I want to recommend is kind of on the basic side, but so good - Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin. My combination skin is notoriously picky about what it does and doesn't like, but this stuff goes on well and absorbs like a dream, leaving me smooth and flake free without turning me into a greaseball before lunch. At only $10, this might become my new go to moisturizer.

Featuring the Dip Brow and the Soft Spoken shade of lipstick.

Finding the right brow product is kind of my holy grail. I could rant for ages about all of the money I've spent on products that ended up not working out, but instead I'm just going to sing the praises of Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Dark Brown and their #12 brush. Is it crazy to spend nearly $40 just for something to doodle your eyebrows on with? Yeah, maybe, but the color works perfectly (neither orange-y nor harsh), the texture is buildable and natural looking, and the flat, angled brush helps me get relatively symmetrical brows in less time than I would have spent drawing on just one with a traditional pencil.
I will admit that it takes some practice to really get a feel for it, but once you do, you'll never want to go back.

I'd gotten into a little bit of a lipstick rut last year - if I was wearing it, it was red or it was purple, with virtually no exceptions. Recently, though, I picked up a couple of these NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks, and they've been a cheap and easy way to mix up my look a little bit. They've got a wide range of colors, both classic and unconventional, and they'll wear all day as long as you don't eat anything too greasy. They are a bit drying, and matte lipstick in general will magnify any cracks or flakes on your lips, so preparation is key. Apply a nice lip balm (I love Cocoa Butter Vaseline, but any moisturizing lip balm should help), let it soak in for a couple of minutes, and then wipe it off before you apply the lipstick.
The two colors that I have so far are Soft Spoken, a rosy brown, and Stone Fox, a deep blue gray. I'm definitely going to be picking up more in the future - maybe a nice red, because it's not like I've already got half a dozen of those...

Stone Fox. The lipstick, not just me. I am also wearing the highlighter, but unfortunately it was too dim a day to really pick it up on camera.

Another NYX product that I picked up recently and have been using every day is the Bright Idea Illuminating Stick in Lavender Lust. I've been a little obsessed recently with that "Instagram glow" that so many makeup artists seem to have - it's just so freaking angelic, like a Renaissance painting. The lavender color works really well on my very fair skin, but they've got a ton of different shades to work on a variety of skin tones. I particularly love it applied right to my cupid's bow - it's a beautiful and a subtle way to draw attention to your lips, and again, it makes you look like a Renaissance freaking painting. I know some of the folks reading this live in the UK, and FYI, you can get NYX products from a few different places, including Selfridges and Boots.
