Vasilisa

A couple of years ago I was obsessed with Russian fairy tales. Recently my interested was rekindled when I was listening to a podcast called Myths and Legends, and I listened to a few of the Russian folktales that he discussed - Koschei the Deathless, the Firebird, and Vasilisa the Fair.

This dress is yet another high street find - Zara this time - that I picked up on sale. I love the embroidery and the navy/red/white color scheme, and it's also insanely comfortable. There was a tiny fad for vyshyvanka, Ukranian embroidered folk garb, last summer, and I was eyeing it for a while before the price dropped, at which point I had to snap it up. It's really well suited to the kind of weather that we're having in Chicago right now, which is unseasonably warm but still a bit chilly.

I'm still working on stepping up my accessories game, and I thought these vintage earrings, which were a Christmas gift from Brian's parents, worked really well with the bohemian feeling of the dress. I do want to try it with a red scarf or hair flower, though.

As you can probably tell, I got a haircut. I'd been on the fence about it for a while, since there are plenty of pros and cons to both long and short hair, but I've been itching for a change for a little while and finally decided to go for it. I'm already really pleased with the cut, which seems really versatile - it can go 50s or 20s depending on the styling, and I can wear it straight or curly, which is really important to me. It's only been a couple of days, but I'm looking forward to playing around with it and really seeing what else I can do.
