Barbie
I feel like I've been talking a lot lately about feeling unmoored and unmotivated, but taking these photos was a good reminder of what I love about blogging. It's not about dropping a ton of money on new clothes, or searching out the oldest and most precious vintage - a sense of fun and a little styling know-how is all it really takes.
I've cut back on my shopping a bit, so I was combing through my closet for possible outfits and this was one of the combinations that I came up with. The top is H&M and probably cost $10 a couple of years ago, while the skirt is from Target and is one of my summer wardrobe mainstays. The top reminded me a bit of a vintage Barbie, so adding a red lip and a bumper bang felt like the natural choice.
The weather was pretty gloomy all weekend, but luckily the rain tapered off enough for me to get out and snap these photos Sunday afternoon. I'm not the best at updos, but my hair was extra dirty and I'd just watched Rockabilly Ruby's Barbie Bangs tutorial on Youtube and it all came together much better than I'd hoped!
The Bonnit was kind enough to send me one of their pretty rain bonnets to try out, and it came in ridiculously handy. It did a great job protecting my style (and given how much effort I put into my hair, you better believe I was worried!), and I thought it actually looked really cute with my outfit. I wasn't originally planning on incorporating it into the shots, but it worked so nicely I didn't want to take it off.
