West End Girl
I seem to have discovered my summer uniform! Just like last week, here I am in a Geoffrey Beane skirt, a t-shirt, and some red lipstick. On the one hand, maybe I need to mix it up a little bit so that I don’t get boring. On the other hand, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?
I’ve actually worn this outfit a few times over the past couple of months. There are some pieces that I buy with the idea that I’ll wear them a few times, get some good photos out of them, and then sell them on (although, if I’m being honest, I hardly ever sell my clothes and could probably stand to part with a few things), but this skirt is a forever piece. Two layers of deliciously soft and flowy chiffon, absurdly full, and perfectly fitted - it’s like it was made for me. I could dress it up with a nicer blouse and heels, but honestly, I love it with a t-shirt and simple sandals. Just walking in it is a pleasure, although it practically begs to be twirled and swirled.
I feel like I’m finally hitting my stride again when it comes to photography. There was a period when I started shooting again where it was so much effort to get the kinds of shots that I wanted, but the last couple of times that I’ve gone out it’s been quick and easy. Part of that is just having a good outfit and good lighting, but the other part is remembering framing, blocking, lighting, and all of the things that go into getting a good picture. After feeling stuck for so long, both missing doing this but being nervous about trying again, it’s lovely to go out and really enjoy it.
I still don’t know if it’s going to be 3 weeks or 3 months before things start to open up here again, but at the moment I’m kind of enjoying working from home. I’ve gotten some opportunities recently to flex my creative muscles, and I’ve gotten some recognition for it, which is pretty exciting. I’m eating better, working out more, and generally enjoying life, even though I do still miss the social side of things.
I hope that everyone reading this is still staying healthy, staying happy, and staying safe.
