Rouge et Blanc

Rouge et Blanc

I may not think that French girls do everything better, but that doesn't mean that I'm not a bit of a Francophile. A trip to Paris isn't in the cards this year (or the next, probably), so putting on a lipstick red beret and a skirt covered in cafes, the Arc de Triomphe, and the Eiffel Tower might just be the next best thing.

This vintage Pendleton skirt (probably 80s) has been sitting my closet for the better part of a year now. I picked it up for $1 at a tiny thrift store in rural Indiana; it was about 4 sizes too big for me, but I loved the color and print, and I was determined to find a way to make it work. I didn't feel like dealing with the tailor, and instead of adding some awkward pleats to try to take it in, I ended up splitting it up the side, cutting out the zipper, and making it into a wrap skirt. A bit labor intensive, mostly because it's this kind of crepe chiffon and I had to hand sew the edges so that it wouldn't fray, but it fits perfectly and I love it.

The skirt seemed to call for simple, easy styling - a white t-shirt (not an item that I often feature here, but something that I wear all the in my day to day life), black flats, gold hoops, and my red beret. I love an outfit like this, because while it might not be quite as showstopping as, say, a gorgeous vintage cocktail dress, it's cute and comfortable and pretty enough to wear just about anywhere. I have a feeling I'll be pulling this combination out of my closet again in the not too distant future.

So, do you have a go-to outfit that you love to pull out of the closet, no matter how often you wear it? Is it a special piece, or is it something that you love for its simplicity?
