Bom Dia, Lisboa!
Apologies for the longer than usual wait between posts - I just got back from vacation! Yes, again; I was just in Austin a couple of weeks ago (I didn't get too many photos, but you can find the ones that I did take on my Instagram, if you're interested), and then last week I headed off again, this time to beautiful Lisbon.
Last year one of my favorite bands, Madder Mortem, released a new album after a long hiatus, and I promised myself that if they went on tour I was going to see them, no matter how far I might have to go to do it. Well, that distance ended up being about 4000 miles!
The show was amazing, and for once I managed to bust out of my introvert shell and actually made some friends in line. I ended up staying out with them until about 5am, heading from bar to bar and generally having a great time. I'm not usually such a night owl, but I guess that's the one perk of jet lag.
The next day, one of my new friends took me on a little tour of the city, which is vibrant and beautiful (not to mention cheap! This might be my first vacation ever where I didn't blow right past my budget - I actually put some money back in the bank when I got home).
Towards the end of the day, I got the surprise of my life when we ran into a couple of members of the band, who had decided to stay in the city for an extra day. We ended up grabbing dinner and drinks, and it turned out that we had a couple of acquaintances in common. So yes, dear readers, that is how I became Facebook friends with some of the members of my favorite band, and I honestly feel like the luckiest person in the world because that's the sort of thing you can't even plan.
I have to fess up to some fashion blogger shenanigans - I didn't get many good outfit snaps the first couple of days that I was there, so I got up early and reshot them my last day there!
This dress is from Unique Vintage, and after I saw some photos of the beautiful tilework that many of the buildings in Lisbon are decorated with, I knew that it would be perfect for my trip. I'd never actually ordered from Unique Vintage before, but I really like this piece! It's a nice, heavy cotton with a bit of stretch (and pockets, and who doesn't love that?), and the sizing seems to be accurate to the chart. It's a bit late in the year to wear it for much longer, but I see it being a staple in my wardrobe once the weather starts to warm up a bit again.
Dress: Unique Vintage
Shoes: Vionic
Earrings, bracelets: Vintage
Finally, I want to say thank you to the people who reached out to me after my last post. I turned the comments off for it because I didn't want people to feel compelled to respond, but I really appreciate the kind words from those who emailed me. Addressing sexual assault head on and removing the stigma from the victims is a good first step in eradicating it from our society, but, of course, there's much more work to be done.
