New Year, New Blog

Happy 2015! And welcome to my new and, hopefully, improved blog, which I've rechristened Zella Maybe.

Zella was my great-grandmother's name, and it's one that I've always liked. I think it has a certain old-fashioned elegance to it, while still sounding modern and cool. When I was thinking about a new name, it was the one that just felt like a good fit. Plus, if I ever do actually take up burlesque, wouldn't that be a great stage name? I also like that Zella Maybe is significantly easier to Google than Cakes and Cakes Vintage ever was. Seriously, trying to find the old site just by searching was an exercise in frustration.

Other than the name and the look of the site, not a lot has changed here. I'm still me, and what I have to say and how I say it is probably never going to change all that much. You can even still access the archive for the old site under the "about" tag up at the top of the page. 

In my last post on the old blog, I talked about my New Year's resolutions, and one of the things that I wanted to do was challenge myself. The more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea of setting up a new challenge every month. Sometimes they'll be tough ones, ones that are really going to take a lot of effort to make it through, but I thought I would start things out by challenging myself to do something that I'd actually like to do - wearing lipstick every day.

January is one of the bleakest months of the year, if not the bleakest. It's cold and shitty out, and the lack of fun and excitement after all the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's festivities can make it feel like it'll never end. What I really need that time of the year is an injection of glamour, something to counteract the gray skies and gloom. I think making an effort every day to slick on a little lipstick is just what the doctor ordered.
