Swing Time

I've been wanting a pair of wide legged trousers for quite a while now. You know how it is when you go through your closet and try a bunch of things on, and you keep thinking "if only I had (item x), I would have so many more options"? Black, 1940s style trousers were that item for me. There are a few companies that offer some version of what I want - Heyday, Vivien of Holloway, I think I've seen some from Collectif - but I decided to go with the Doris pants from Pinup Girl.

I'd love to say that they're perfect, and that both my wardrobe and my life are complete, but... well, let me run down the pros and cons.

Pro: They're very well made. The fabric has a nice weight to it, and they're lined, which helps to give them some nice drape.

Con: The pockets gape for some reason. It doesn't seem to be a sizing issue - they're not tight by any stretch of the imagination, and another girl that I was talking to on Instagram had the same problem, so it's not just me.

Pro: The sizing is very forgiving. They were sold out in a medium, which is what I would normally take, so I decided to give the small a try. With the elastic panel in the back, the can stretch to accommodate a variety of sizes.

Con: They're actually a bit too wide for me. I like a generous cut, but this is like wearing a skirt! I also feel like the width would look a bit sloppy with flats, which means that I'm currently only wearing them with heels.

Con: At $128, they ain't cheap, although they are made in America, so I guess it's not unreasonably expensive either.

So, as you can see, it's a bit of a mixed bag with these. I honestly might have returned them, but unfortunately I lost the packing slip when I tried them on at work. I'm considering taking them to the tailor to see if they can sew up the pockets, and possibly take in the legs a bit as well, although I'm considering selling them on.

What do you guys think? Do you have any trouser recommendations for me? One of the big reasons that I went with this pair is that I didn't want to deal with international shipping, but I feel like the British brands are kind of the gold standard for casual 40s repro!
