1905

This is the third time that I've shot this dress for the blog, and it's one of those items that I could never see selling on. I don't wear it very often - it's not fragile or anything, but a white maxi dress is practically begging to get something spilled on it, or the hem stepped on and ripped up, or something equally disastrous - but every time that I do, I'm reminded of how magical and transportive clothing can be.

The challenge with a dress like this is finding a way to change up the styling so that it feels fresh and new. This time around, I added a straw hat (this is the third time in a row that I've worn it for a shoot, actually - hat trick!) and a hair flower, as well as a velvet ribbon belt and a pair of black velvet flats. It's hardly reinventing the wheel, but it felt like a fun way to play up Edwardian look of the dress without feeling too over the top.

I wrote a post a couple of months ago about my favorite places in Chicago to take photographs, and the Art Institute of Chicago was very high on my list. I think these are the first photographs that I've taken there that really capture the beauty of the location - the rich greenery and beautiful fountain are utterly enchanting.

I mentioned previously that Brian and I are house hunting right now, and a place that were strongly considering is much further away from the parks and museums that I've been shooting at for the past couple of years. I'm really excited about the prospect of owning a home, and thinking a lot about what I want to do to make it my own, but I'm going to miss a lot of the things that the neighborhood that I live in now has to offer. It's definitely going to be an adjustment, but I'm crossing my fingers that I'll discover some new favorites along the way!
