Seahorsing Around

Seahorsing Around

A while back I mentioned that I was going to try not to buy any new clothes this summer. Well, that plan didn't last too long - but who can resist when you see a dress this cute for under $50?

With seahorses, palm trees, and hat-wearing retro beach babes, I couldn't pass on this dress when I saw it on sale on The Oblong Box Shop. I'm not even sure what I was doing on the website, but it's worth checking out the rest of their clearance section if you're looking for 50s style dresses or separates.

I'm pretty pleased with the dress, especially considering how deeply discounted it was. It's a soft, lightweight cotton, and while the bodice isn't lined, the skirt is - no need for a slip. It's got a bit of stretch to it, and I found it very comfortable. The zipper down the back is a bit odd, since it doesn't go all the way to the top (it stops just below the collar), but given the design of the dress it make sense. And it has pockets! The only thing I'd really ding it on is the belt, which doesn't have a tongue (the bit that goes in the holes, I mean; and yes, I had to look it up), so you can't cinch it normally. There are workarounds, but I found myself fiddling with it a lot.

I was planning on taking photos myself, but Brian surprised me by waking up early and asking if I wanted some help. Of course I said yes - I had a cool location in mind, down by the Chicago River, but I never could have gotten some of these shots without his able assistance.

As you may have noticed, I'm a redhead again, although I don't plan in being here long - I'm planning on going blond over the next couple of months. It's been a few years since I've gone that light, and my thirst for change is really pushing me. I actually did my hair myself, and no, I don't recommend stripping black dye out of your own hair if you're not a professional. Not to suggest that I am, but after several years of doing stupid things to my hair, I think I've picked up a few tricks.
